US President Donald Trump held a meeting with his national security team regarding the situation around Iran. In particular, various scenarios of events were discussed during the meeting, including the resumption of military actions.
This is reported by Axios, citing two American officials.
It is known that Vice President Jay Di Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and other officials were present at the meeting. They informed the president about the state of negotiations and discussed further steps in the war.
According to sources, the head of the White House is seriously considering the possibility of delivering new strikes on Iran, as no breakthrough has been achieved in negotiations recently.
One of the interlocutors close to the American leader said that Trump is increasingly frustrated with diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching an agreement with Tehran. One of the American officials called the negotiations “painful,” as drafts of documents are “passed back and forth daily” without significant progress.
“Another source reported that the president raised the issue of the possibility of conducting a final ‘decisive’ major military operation, after which he could declare victory and end the war,” Axios writes.
Currently, the publication emphasizes, there are no signs that Trump has decided to resume hostilities. However, according to officials familiar with the situation, the US president “seems inclined to continue military actions if nothing unexpected happens in the negotiations.”
It should be noted that after this meeting, the White House changed Donald Trump’s schedule for the weekend: after speaking in New York, he will return to Washington instead of going to his golf club in Bedminster. He also canceled a trip to the wedding of his son Donald Trump Jr., citing “circumstances related to the government and love for the USA.”
Recall that CNN writes about the fact that Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quarreled over Iran. In particular, the conflict arose over how further actions in the war should proceed. Netanyahu insists on a tougher approach, as delaying strikes only gives Iran time. However, Trump wants to give negotiations a chance.
