The Polish government has submitted an official proposal to the US Secretary of Defense for the establishment of a new permanent base for American troops on Polish territory to enhance regional security.

The Polish government continues to take active steps to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities against the backdrop of increasing threats in the European region. Warsaw has officially approached Washington with an initiative to permanently station new American military units on its territory.

Official Proposal for the Pentagon
During communication with the United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, the Polish side put forward a concrete proposal to deepen military cooperation. According to the head of Poland’s defense ministry, the involvement of American partners in guaranteeing his country’s security is not only not diminishing but has every prospect of significant expansion in the near future.
The establishment of a new permanent military base is intended to be the next logical step in the strategic partnership between the two nations. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Poland’s security globally relies on three key components: a strong national army, a cohesive society, and reliable international alliances, among which the military presence of the United States plays a crucial role.
Pentagon’s Plans Changed and Trump’s Decision
In mid-May, the news that the Pentagon had abruptly canceled the deployment of an American armored brigade to Poland caused a stir in the information space. This decision, which came as a surprise even to some military officials, was explained by President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce the US military presence in Europe, despite the fact that equipment and some personnel were already en route.
At the time, the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, hastened to reassure the public, assuring that this situation was related to a previously announced change in the presence of American forces and did not directly worsen the country’s security. Meanwhile, the US stated that the army was facing a budget deficit due to expanded domestic operations, although NATO promised to maintain a strong presence on the eastern flank.
However, just a week later, the situation changed dramatically, and Donald Trump unexpectedly announced his intention to send an additional five thousand American servicemen to Polish territory. The head of the White House announced this decision on his Truth Social network, effectively quashing previous concerns about a reduction in the military contingent in this region.
The American leader directly linked his sharp policy reversal to the results of the elections in Poland. Trump emphasized that the increased military presence is a consequence of the successful election of the new Polish President Karol Nawrocki, whom he personally supported during the campaign, and the result of warm bilateral relations between the politicians.
