A couple from the USA, who purchased a historic house at auction for nearly half a million dollars, discovered unexpected “neighbors” after moving in. While the dwelling stood empty for about a decade, a large population of snakes had settled there.

Tyler and Lauren Boldin bought the historic stone house from the 1830s in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, back in 2020. They paid $460,000 at auction for the property, which spans approximately 560 square meters and features six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
However, after moving in with their two children, the family quickly realized they wouldn’t be living alone in the house. Over the years, while the building remained ownerless, snakes had established their home within it.
“When we bought our house, we didn’t realize we were also buying a significant snake population,” Tyler joked in a video posted on TikTok.
According to him, the reptiles regularly appear both inside and outside the house. One video shows two long black snakes climbing a stone wall and entering the porch roof through a small opening, while another lies right by the house entrance.
Initially, the owner was reluctant to get rid of the black snakes, believing they helped deter more dangerous species. However, he later became convinced that different reptiles could coexist peacefully in the same territory.
To reduce the number of unwanted guests, the family acquired two cats to combat the rodents that attract snakes. Additionally, the couple is actively renovating the house, sealing cracks in the foundation and other areas where the reptiles might find shelter.
Tyler also purchased a special device for safely capturing snakes. He states that after catching them, he transports them to the nearest wooded area.
The homeowner shared that the family dedicates a considerable portion of their free time to clearing the yard, stone walls, garden, and adjacent woodland of debris, old items, and dense overgrowth to make the area less appealing to unwelcome inhabitants.
