The United States Armed Forces have commenced additional military strikes against Iran to degrade the capabilities of local armed formations. This operation is aimed at ensuring the security and protecting the freedom of international navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
This was reported by the U.S. Central Command.
Objective of the Military Operation
The American military leadership emphasizes that such decisive actions are a direct response to recent unjustified aggression against civilian crews and commercial vessels. Official Washington seeks to hold Tehran strictly accountable for creating a real danger in this critically important international waterway.
“U.S. Central Command forces have begun conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation,” the department’s official statement reads.
The deliberate destruction of Iranian military infrastructure is intended to deprive the country of its ability to attack merchant ships freely moving in open international waters with impunity.
Previous Strikes and Ceasefire Cancellation
Previously, American aviation attacked strategic targets near Bandar Abbas, destroying air defense systems, coastal radars, and port infrastructure. Washington warned that this large-scale military action was intended to punish the aggressor for constant attacks on commercial vessels and violations of previous agreements.
In parallel with military actions, the United States rescinded sanctions waivers that allowed Iran to export oil, as the Iranian side failed to adhere to its commitments. It is noteworthy that the sharp military and economic escalation coincided with large-scale funeral processions in the country following the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Meanwhile, during a NATO summit in Ankara, the US President announced the final cancellation of the ceasefire regime and a refusal to engage in further peace talks. The head of the White House sharply criticized the Iranian leadership, accusing it of outright deception regarding the non-development of nuclear weapons, and called any diplomatic contact with them a waste of time.
Immediately after the public statement by the United States leadership regarding the withdrawal from the ceasefire, global markets recorded a sharp increase in energy prices. The cost of benchmark oil grades jumped by more than 5%, instantly reacting to the new wave of escalation in the Middle East conflict.
