Participants in the talks between the United States and Iran, held in Switzerland, engaged in productive consultations on all points of the preliminary memorandum signed on June 17.

This was reported on social media platform X by correspondent Barak Ravid, citing an American diplomatic source.

According to the diplomat, the parties thoroughly reviewed all components of future agreements, as well as mechanisms intended to ensure a shared understanding of positions among all participants in the negotiation process.

Among the primary topics of the meeting were Iran’s nuclear program, the ceasefire in Lebanon, and issues concerning the safety of vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The parties dedicated particular attention to resolving the conflict in Lebanon. It was the Iranian delegation that insisted on this matter, according to the source.

Furthermore, discussions during the negotiations addressed Tehran’s recent statements regarding the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz – one of the world’s most critical oil transportation routes.

The American diplomat stated that the parties managed to make “good progress” in this regard and move closer to agreements ensuring the complete openness of the maritime route.

Following the first round of consultations, according to the source speaking to the journalist, all four parties involved in the negotiation process expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s proceedings, and the mediators facilitated the creation of conditions for further strengthening trust between Washington and Tehran.

Peaceful Agreements

Recently, the United States and Iran officially announced the achievement of a peace accord, which was scheduled for signing on June 19 in Geneva with Pakistan’s mediation. Immediately following these successful diplomatic steps, Donald Trump announced the immediate lifting of the American blockade and the opening of transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

For their part, the leaders of the G7 countries publicly expressed their readiness to support Washington’s plan for rapid de-mining and the restoration of secure shipping in this region. However, European allies emphasized the necessity of obtaining reliable long-term guarantees from Tehran before deploying their warships there.

Despite loud declarations of historic reconciliation between the USA and Iran, the leadership of Israel refused to comply with these decisions, underscoring their status as an independent state. Israeli officials made it unequivocally clear that the American agreement was not binding for them and would not halt their military operations.

International experts noted that the normalization of trade flow and the return to pre-war transport volumes would, in any case, require at least several weeks of coordinated effort. Simultaneously, this Middle Eastern agreement would allow the Trump administration to focus more on military aid and negotiation processes concerning Ukraine.

As a reminder, on June 18, the United States of America lifted restrictions on maritime traffic to Iranian ports and coastal areas. This decision was made by order of U.S. President Donald Trump.
