US President Donald Trump intends to approach American defense corporations with a request to set up licensed manufacturing of missiles and weapon systems directly in Europe and Ukraine, with the objective of accelerating the supply of critically important armaments to Kyiv.
According to Bloomberg, Donald Trump discussed this potential initiative with allies during the G7 Summit 2026 held in France.
The proposal involves enabling American defense companies to produce weaponry under license within European countries and directly in Ukraine. This primarily concerns air defense systems and interceptor missiles, which are vital for Kyiv’s defense against Russian ballistic strikes.
Sources indicate that the US has experienced a depletion of some of its missile reserves due to other military operations, and scaling up domestic production requires time. Consequently, Washington is exploring the option of relocating a portion of its manufacturing capabilities closer to the European security theater.
Donald Trump himself, in comments to journalists, stated that the administration “will consider such a possibility” if it helps to more rapidly equip partners with necessary weaponry.
This initiative could represent one of the most significant steps toward enhancing Ukraine’s defense autonomy and expanding industrial-military cooperation among Kyiv, Europe, and the US.
