US President Donald Trump, accompanied by journalists, visited the construction site of the $400 million White House ballroom. According to him, the structure will be completely protected from drones and will feature an underground military complex.
This was reported by the BBC.
Trump noted that the construction of the ballroom is funded by private donors and is progressing ahead of schedule. However, the project faced additional obstacles after a Senate parliamentary arbiter opposed a $1 billion provision in the bill that was intended to secure its funding.
“This was all paid for by me personally, and because I keep hearing that it wasn’t – we’re doing it as a gift. Taxpayers will not be paying for this,” stated the US President.
He also elaborated on what would be housed in the new facility.
“It is drone-proof – if a drone hits the building, it will simply bounce off. It will have no effect. But it is also designed as a drone port, so the roof of the building protects all of Washington. There will be various rooms here, and they are building a hospital. They are building a military hospital. They are also constructing all sorts of research centers, conference rooms, and other facilities directly related to the military’s use of the ballroom. And the ballroom itself essentially acts as a shield, protecting everything that will be built here,” Trump described.
Trump further mentioned that various military units could be accommodated there. According to the president, while he would prefer not to use the word “snipers,” the complex offers excellent capabilities for American snipers to counter adversaries, as well as for medical personnel. Additionally, due to the facility’s height, Trump noted, it would provide a very clear view of all of Washington.
As a reminder, in January, CNN and The Independent reported that under the guise of reconstructing the East Wing of the White House, the underground presidential bunker was being secretly modernized on Trump’s orders. The project was so classified that the administration even bypassed obtaining approval from the National Capital Planning Commission, and legal documents halting the work described it as a national security threat. The structure, built in 1941 to protect US leaders, had outdated 1940s infrastructure. Currently, the old structures have been completely dismantled, and all details of the new high-tech shelter’s construction are being meticulously concealed.
It should be noted that in April, a court halted the construction of the new ballroom. The court ruled that work could not proceed without official congressional approval, which oversees federal property, and criticized the administration for providing conflicting explanations regarding the project’s funding through private donations.
