A couple from the USA fulfilled a long-held dream and purchased an old house. But after moving in, it turned out that over the years without people, dozens of snakes had inhabited the dwelling.

A couple from the USA realized a lifelong ambition by acquiring a historic residence, only to discover upon settling in that they were not alone in the house. Over the years the building stood vacant, it had become home to numerous snakes.

Tyler and Lauren Boulden searched for their own home for many years. In 2020, they bought a stone house from the 1830s at auction in the town of Pine Grove (Pennsylvania), which has a population of about two thousand people. The couple paid $460,000 for the property. The house, approximately 6,000 square feet in size, features six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
The new owners believed the house had been abandoned for about ten years. However, shortly after moving in, they found that during this time, the dwelling had become a haven for a large number of snakes.
“When we bought the house, we didn’t realize we were also buying a large snake population,” Tyler joked in a video he posted on TikTok.
In one of the recordings, the man showed two long black snakes crawling up the facade of the house and entering through a small opening under the porch roof. He noticed another reptile right by the entrance. According to him, Lauren almost stepped on it.
Initially, Tyler was in no hurry to get rid of the black snakes, as he thought they might deter more dangerous species, such as copperheads. Later, he realized that different species can coexist in the same territory, so he decided to actively address the problem.
To make the yard less attractive to reptiles, the couple acquired two cats that hunt rodents, the snakes’ primary food source. The couple is also renovating the house, sealing cracks in the foundation and other structures where mice might hide and reptiles could find shelter.
In addition, the owners tidied up the area around the house: they removed debris, overgrowth, and junk from the lawn, garden, stone walls, and adjacent woodland. They also cleared out a neglected in-ground pool, restored a pond, and installed filters and fountains in it. Mint, considered a natural snake repellent, was planted around the residence.
Tyler also purchased a special tool for safely catching reptiles. He transports the caught snakes to a nearby forested area.
The story quickly gained popularity on TikTok. In the comments, users shared their own experiences dealing with snakes and offered advice. One commenter wrote that after the appearance of rattlesnakes, they found rats in the house that had settled in the attic and basement. Another noted that one visible snake might indicate the presence of several dozen more hidden ones. Commenters also recommended contacting local reptile specialists to humanely relocate the snakes and prevent their return.
Recall that in India, surveillance cameras captured a leopard attack on a shop employee. Before that, the animal had injured two other people, and the operation to capture it lasted almost five hours.
