The nuclear threats made by Russian dictator Volodymyr Putin towards Ukraine and the world are a public bluff, demonstrating his weakness and lack of confidence in his army’s strength. Such “saber-rattling” is an attempt to offset defeats on the front lines and will not intimidate Kyiv’s allies.
This was stated by the head of the US National Nuclear Security Administration, Brandon Williams, as reported by Axios.
US Statement on Putin
The US has warned that due to tensions between major powers, the world is entering a new nuclear era. According to the official, the rules of deterrence have changed and are no longer what they used to be.
“Deterrence is not what it was during the Cold War,” Williams noted.
The official recalled that the US and Russia possess about 85% of the world’s nuclear weapons. However, the current threats from the Russian leader are nonsensical and merely a bluff.
