Following a prolonged hiatus, Joe Biden has reappeared in public, not overlooking Donald Trump. The former US President voiced a series of grievances against his successor and recalled his own warnings concerning democracy.

For the first time in a considerable period, former US President Joe Biden has critiqued the current US President, Donald Trump. The Biden family has gradually begun to re-enter the public discourse, with Joe Biden initiating his return with criticism directed at Trump.
This is reported by The New York Times.
Biden criticized Trump: what he said
The reappearance of the former First Family of the United States has stirred dissatisfaction among some Democrats. On Friday evening in Sioux Falls, where Biden made his first public appearance in a long time, the 46th US President chose to speak at an event organized by the South Dakota Democratic Party in the banquet hall of the Best Western hotel.
Hundreds of Democrats were enthralled as Biden delivered what was arguably the most politically charged statement of his post-presidency.
Journalists note that at times his words were exceedingly difficult to decipher, and on occasion, Joe Biden’s voice rose to a shout, yet he sharply criticized the incumbent US President, Donald Trump, particularly for his “terrible vanity projects.”
“My God, to tear down the East Room of the White House to make space for a ballroom that would be more suitable for Versailles? Or to put your name on the ‘Kennedy Center’… Or to build an arch that would dwarf the Lincoln Memorial…,” Biden reprimanded.
Biden also commented on the “$1.8 billion slush fund”:
“What angered me most was that Trump was going to give this money to the January 6th insurrectionists. And the vast sums of cryptocurrency that Mr. Trump amassed after returning to the presidency.”
Furthermore, Biden did not shy away from addressing the criticism he faced during his presidency:
“I was criticized some time ago, when I was still president, for saying that our democracy was under threat. This was the closest I came to saying ‘I told you so’,” Joe Biden added.
Over the past week, the Biden family has been highly visible in public. The publication of Jill Biden’s book last week opened deep wounds within the party, as Jill presented her version of how painful the end of Biden’s presidency was for him.
The discussion took an unpleasant turn when former Biden staffers began to contradict her online and in media statements, and Jill started to respond to them.
Meanwhile, Biden’s son, Hunter, has actively resumed posting on X. Throughout his father’s presidency, the younger Biden was considered a liability, but now he can freely express his opinions, and interestingly, people seem to appreciate it.
In particular, he has captivated even some Trump supporters, who enjoy Hunter Biden’s ironic descriptions of his past struggles with addiction, as well as his biting jokes directed at those considered “enemies” of the Biden family.
Joe Biden’s press secretary, TJ Ducklo, stated that the former president is currently writing his memoirs, though a publication date has not yet been set.
Journalists shared that the event where Biden spoke had no special arrangements, a significant press presence was absent, and his speech was not broadcast on television.
Biden’s son called Ukraine a “nest of vipers”
As a reminder, former US President’s son Hunter Biden, in an interview, called Ukraine a “nest of vipers” due to its high level of corruption. He admitted his mistake in joining the board of directors of the company Burisma in 2014, attributing it to naivety and a complex political context.
In addition, the younger Biden criticized Barack Obama’s inner circle, which forced him to leave lobbying and start a business from scratch. He also reproached Donald Trump’s administration for enriching itself during its presidency.
He also openly criticized his father’s decisions, calling the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 a failure, and spoke out against illegal immigration, which he believes depletes the country’s resources.
Hunter Biden himself is a lawyer and businessman whose work at Ukraine’s Burisma, without relevant experience, drew accusations of a conflict of interest from Joe Biden’s political opponents.
Furthermore, he is known for his battles with addiction and the criminal cases of 2023–2024 concerning firearms and unpaid taxes.
