Any takers?
Time to get Stokes in to coach? He’d love this kind of situation
– Chris
Morning Chris.
I’m sure this’ll go down over well.

31st over – Starc to Tanzid
Boundary! Tanzid is edging to ground and the ball flies through the vacant third slip area. Four runs to begin the over.
Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:56am
30th over – Cummins once again
Cummins is coming around the wicket to Tanzid, and angles a short ball into his body.
The batter is underneath it.
Two slips in wait as Cummins charges in once more. This one is pitched up and Tanzid is flirting with and missing one outside off.
Tanzid works a couple runs through the off-side and Cummins changes angle.
The Australian captain bounces one in from over the wicket, which Tanzid is underneath.
The over concludes with a quick single through the off-side and a diving Marnus Labuschagne taking a massive chunk out of the turf.

29th over – Starc with an excellent set of six
Beaten! Good delivering from Starc. Quick and on a good length, Mominul is flirting outside off stump.
Full and in the blockhole and Mominul gets his bat down in time, defending straight.
There’s half an appeal behind the stumps as Starc goes past the outside edge with a short ball.
Mitch Starc certainly looking the most likely of the Australian bowlers right now.
Mominul plays inside the line of another short one.
Leading edge! Starc goes fuller and catches Mominul slightly unaware, but his mistimed swipe goes straight to ground.
That’s the end of a much better over from Australia.
A maiden.
Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:46am
28th over – Cummins goes again
Mominul plays another sweet drive, but Labuschagne is once again diving and saving four.
Short and well-negotiated by Mominul, who turns one off his hip and away for a single.
Cummins pitches one up and Tanzid plays the ball straight. It’s a well-timed drive and Cummins does well to get a hand on it. The batters run two.
Tanzid is leaving to end the over.

Not a whole lot of zip out there
The Aussies look exhausted already. Not test match ready in both fitness and form.
– KB
Morning KB.
I agree, body language doesn’t look great out there.
Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:41am
27th over – Starc takes over
So, just the one over for Beau Webster to begin the morning.
It’s Mitchell Starc — who has ditched the black headband he debuted yesterday — to bowl the third set of the day.
He’s coming over the wicket and is finding a full length and a nice line straight away. Tanzid is defending.
Starc brings his length back and has Tanzid flirting outside off.
Not a whole lot of spring in the step of the Australians so far today…
Full from Starc and Tanzid jams down on it, earning a single through point.
And Mominul will retain strike for the fourth over of the day, working a single behind square to end Starc’s first set.
Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:36am
26th over – Cummins from the other end
Flicked! A bit loose from Cummins — full and on the pads, and Mominul is quick to clip the ball behind square for a boundary.
Oooh, that’s another fine stroke from Mominul, who strides forward and meets his cover drive with some menace. A diving Labuschagne saves a boundary.
Mominul is shouldering arms and then defending stoutly to end the second over of the day.
Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:31am
25th over – Beau Webster opens things up
Interestingly, it’s Beau Webster with ball in hand.
He’s getting things underway on day two, coming from over the wicket to the left-handed Mominul.
Soft hands from Mominul, and he earns a single out into the off-side.
Beaten! Lovely angle from Webster, who has Tanzid fending at one outside off.
And again! That’s another peach from Webster, this time getting some serious movement off the pitch and away from Tanzid.
Tanzid gets his first runs of the day, squirting one out through point for a couple.
He finishes the over with a nice-looking cover drive, but it’s stopped in the infield and there won’t be a run.

Hoping for better from Australia on day two
Good morning Henry and Simon! I’m hoping Australia can get their act together today as yesterday definitely wasn’t our best ever performance 😬 I’ll be at day 1 of the Mackay test so I’m hoping to see some better cricket by then….
– Tanya
G’day Tanya!
It was pretty dire stuff from Australia yesterday.
I think the lack of care with the bat was the most disappointing aspect from an Australian perspective, especially in comparison with how composed and considered Bangladesh seemed in reaching 1-96 at stumps.
Sure, the ball was nipping around a bit early on and the Bangladeshi seamers were sensational, but I don’t think that was a sub-200 first-dig pitch.
And then, it was concerning how quickly the Australian bowlers seemed to run out of both steam and ideas.
It was undoubtedly muggy out there, but during the final hour of play, there was very little zip in the field and the bowlers didn’t really seem convinced they were likely to take a wicket.
We’re moments away from the start of play on day two.

Lyon not here to ‘comment on batting or s**t shots’
Speaking to ABC Grandstand after stumps on day one, Nathan Lyon admitted that his side could have done with a few more runs, but that he wasn’t going to lay the foot into his batting teammates.

Day two session times
- Morning session: 10am – 12pm ACST (10:30 – 12:30pm AEST, 8:30am – 10:30am AWST)
- Afternoon session: 12:40pm – 2:40pm ACST (1:10pm – 3:10pm AEST, 11:10am – 1:10pm AWST)
- Evening session: 3:00pm – 5:00pm (3:30pm – 5:30pm AEST, 1:30pm – 3:30pm AWST)
But you can essentially guarantee that final session will be extended an extra half hour, given a 90-over day of Test cricket is a thing of the past.

Quick hits: Steve Smith’s ‘peanut’, a triple reprieve and Mitch Starc’s milestone moment
Steve Smith called a Bangladesh bowler a “peanut” for making an appeal, but he could probably have labelled a couple of his batting colleagues as such on a dire batting display for Australia. Here are the quick hits from day one of the first Test between Australia and Bangladesh.
Quick hits: A ‘peanut’ jibe, a Starc record and a brain explosion

Another beautiful day in Darwin
From where we’d rather be…

Fri 14 Aug 2026 at 10:10am
What happened yesterday?
It was a day to forget for Australia, who were outthought, outmanoeuvred and outplayed in the Darwin sunshine.
Hasan Mahmud took six wickets to help Bangladesh dismiss Australia for 198, before Tanzid Hasan (32no) and Mominul Haque (35no) led the Tigers to a score of 1-96 at stumps.
Goodness knows where Australia would be without Steve Smith’s fighting half-century.

Good morning!
Hello and welcome to day two of Australia’s winter of cricket.
I think it’s fair to say the Australians were pretty off it yesterday — flat, seemingly uninterested, short of ideas and, despite an eight-month lead-in, surprised to be playing a home Test match in August.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, were sensational. So disciplined with both bat and ball, dominating the day from start to finish.
How will things change on day two?
My name’s Henry Hanson and I will be joined by Simon Smale to bring you all the action from Darwin.
Let’s go!
